August President's Message
Greetings to all!
A big thank you for all who made yesterday's 6th Annual Pool Party an overwhelming success! Thank you to Michael Sicheri who graciously opened his home again and prepared a vast array of delicious food. Thank you to Michael Jankowski for coordinating the event. Thank you to Thomas Christopher Designs for the swim wear (available at Universal Gear and Nordstrom), which was modeled by Cary, Bill, Don, Graig, Mark, Wayne and Trey--and thanks to the models who walked the catwalk and let Madge molest them....all in the name of hot men's swimwear fashion, of course! The day was just perfect, even though it was one of our hottest of the year.
We have two events this week to note. On Monday at 8PM at the AMF Bowling Center in Annandale, joing Capital Area Rain Bowlers Association for a fun night of bowling. Please RSVP directly to them at president@carabowling.org.
Also, please remember the services offered by the Alexandria Health Department, 4480 King Street, at their Rainbow Tuesdays Clinic, especially for gay, bisexual and transgender men. Clinics run the second and fourth Tuesdays, 5-8PM.
Coming up in August, our First Tuesday Social will be held at Evening Star on Mount Vernon Avenue. We tried for July, but an exploding transformer on a pole outside knocked out power, which forced Evening Star to close--and it started to heat up in a hurry in there. Our social will be on August 3, 6:30 - 8:30 PM.
We have a thriving book club, which usually meets the second Wednesday of the month. However, this month, we're meeting on the 17th, to accomodate our host. We're reading The Catcher in the Rye. Please RSVP directly to our host Ken at vffkenc@cox.net for a head count and directions.
Incidentally, we have a separate bookclub e-mail list. Anyone is welcome to come to any of our monthly meetings, but if you'd like to be included on this "insiders' list", please let our coordinator John know at williams-shea@usa.net and he'll add you.
On August 18, we're ice skating with DC Ice Breakers at the Ballston Ice Complex (top of Ballston Common Mall). Skating is from 7:45 - 8:45, then the group will go to Bailey's for some socializing. Please plan to come out and if the heat is still with us, we'll be able to cool off nicely. Complete details on our website/calendar (and the home page as the event date gets nearer).
Don't forget Rainbow Tuesdays Clinic, August 10 and 24, 5 - 8 PM.
I hope summer is going well for all. See you at Evening Star on the 3rd!
