E. M. Forster’s “Maurice” and the movie version.

E. M. Forster, of course, is noted for “A Passage to India”, “A Room with a View”, and “Howard’s End”.

Forster’s “Maurice” is the story of a love affair between Maurice and Schudder, an under-gamekeeper whom Maurice encounters while visiting the estate of his university friend, Clive. Forster resisted publication of the book during his lifetime because of public and legal attitudes. A note on the manuscript read: “Publishable, but not worth it.”
